This lesson aims to highlight the increasing incidence of atrial fibrillation and explain current thinking regarding the mechanisms, diagnosis and management of this common arrhythmia.

This lesson has been designed as an introduction to atrial fibrillation. Complete the lesson content and then take the knowledge check to assess your understanding.

On completion of this lesson you should be able to:

  1. Recognise the increasing incidence of atrial fibrillation and its consequences
  2. Describe the mechanisms of atrial fibrillation and clinical presentations
  3. Explain the diagnostic process and recognise ECG changes in atrial fibrillation
  4. Explain the various therapy options for patients with AF including intracardiac catheter ablation.
