Lesson Details

This lesson describes the biophysical science behind POLARx cryoablation.

This lesson aims to provide details of the biophysics of ablation and current evidence dosing strategies based on published data.

Complete the lesson content and then take the knowledge check to assess your understanding.

The learning outcomes tab provides details of the required level of understanding.

This lesson provides learning on the following topics:

  • Introduction
  • Cryoablation History
  • Cryoablation Biophysics
  • Cryoablation vs RF ablation
  • Dosing Protocol
  • Dosing Strategies
  • Summary

On completion of this lesson you should be able to:

  1. Recognise the historical developments of cryoablation and their impact on current technology.
  2. Explain the biophysics of cryoablation
  3. Identify differences between RF and cryoablation lesions and factors that impact lesion size in both technologies
  4. Be aware of current dosing protocols and differences between dosing protocol options for POLARx and Artic Front
  5. Recognise the impact of each parameter in the effectiveness of the lesion and durability of PVI.

The questions within the lesson are there to help you with your understanding and will not be scored. On completion of the lesson, you will then be able to take the knowledge check. This knowledge check is comprised of six multiple-choice questions.

In order to complete this lesson, you will be required to achieve a score of 80% for either assessment.
